Eizan Railway in Kyoto

Whether to see the beautiful Autumn leaves, escape the ghastly heat of summer or enjoy the snow in winter, this northern part of Kyoto has a lovely escape for city dwellers. The way to get there is via the Eizan railway which departs from Demachiyanagi station (on the Keihan line from Osaka).

The folks at Eizan Railway put together a great guide for visitors and residents in English (available at the station) to help you enjoy the sights and experiences of this convenient getaway.

You can call the Sales department for more info (Japanese) 075 702 8111 (9-5 weekdays).

Lonely Planet has a nice article about things you can see at Hiei San mountain temple complex and also a nice hike you can take.
